Notes: Super Dave was simply amazing. There's just no other way of describing him. I am -so- happy that he shared his life with me, I am forever grateful for it. And forever grateful to Chrissy, who bred him & originally owned him. He was a Valentines Day gift from Chrissy, hands down the best VDay gift I have ever recieved. He passed away recently, & is deeply missed though we know he is in a good place enjoying some rib bones & yogies with his mother, RMAX Funky Cold Medina & his little brother, RMAX Bill Nye.
Dave gave me two marvelous baby boys that I cherish dearly. Each day, they remind me of him & his mother, Medina. Their line will be carried on here at NNOS for as long as I can manage it.
(I uploaded this to my gallery because a.) it's a beautiful shot of a beautiful rat, & b.) something new needs to show as my most recent deviation. x.o)
Awwwww Misty, I am so sorry ;_;. I loved the Super Davum too. He really is the cutest boy rat I have ever seen, no other rat had a face like him. I hope you can keep his line going strong. Medina's family is the best! I send you hugs girl. It is so hard when our babies leave us. I dread every day that I will lose another one since all my girls are gettin' up there too. I wish I had known more about breeding so I could have made a clutch of Nutlets -cries- Dave's babums will grow up strong!
Chin up and know that Dave will be in good company ^_^. I will draw you a pic of him toos...he is SO cute, how can I resist?
(Pnut might even jump his bones...Bean will be so jealous!)

HAH, his ears...I don't know. Both his mother & father had nice, saucer-sized dumbo ears. And his came out...mini'd. xD
And, thank you. <3 As I said in the description, he gave me two gorgeous baby boys. (he never produced any females, UGH) And I will be carrying on the line as long as I can. I still have one girl from his half-sister (same mom) & another girl from one of his aunts. I have the basics for keeping the line going, but I'm focusing on out-crossing the line right now to lower the inbreeding coefficant. I'm also introducing the line into my dwarf AND harley lines, which are both fairly new blood as their grandparents came from a rattery in CA.
...Speaking of the tinies, over the weekend BOTH my dwarf girlies had litters! Dwarf x dwarf parents, all four carrying the harley gene. One had four; two standard coat & two temp. rex (I say temp. as they could end up being rex harley. I won't be able to tell until their fur starts to come in.) all those four are dumbos. In the other litter, there is three. I can't decide on the ears as I'm not good at that until they're at least a week old. (yeah I suck at that...father was dumbo, mother was top ear) Even though the father was rex & both parents carry harley, all three are standard coats. I AM SO DAMN HAPPY, THOUGH. *flails about*

Aww, congrats!
I really wish I could find a breeder in my area.. [I'm sure I can...I probably just need to look harder X3] 90% of my ratties have been feeder bin rescues, quite often with health problems. I only have 2 girls right now, because I'm in college and *cough* they're not allowed in the dorms. Spook hasn't had any trouble [in fact she's been really healthy], but my little hooded girl has a decent sized heart murmur and is constantly plagued with respiratory troubles
You think all the vet bills would learn me, but I just can't resist tiny baby rats...especially when I know they're going to be snake food!
*shiftyeyes* P.S: Post pictures

What IS your area? It is completely possible & legal to ship rats across the states. I myself (along with Chrissy from RMAX) have done it before, with a rattery in CA. Bringing in new blood, etc. Always a good thing. Anyways! So if you want to get on the waiting list for NNOS (my rattery) just let me know & I'll set you up. The point of the mailing list to to alert waiting list folks of new litters they can go reserve babies from. Each time I post up a new litter, I send out a New Litter announcement & usually within two days all the babies are reserved. But if you work with me on a more personal level I can help you get what you would like before the general mod of public crazies start dive-bombing to reserve the ones they want.
Back to shipping! If you are in the states, I can ship rats to you no problem. They MUST be sent Delta Dash (air overnight) & you have to pick them up at the Delta cargo center in the airport. The flat shipping price is, I believe, $140 or so. And since it's a bit silly to pay that for just two or so rats, I encourage people having rats shipped to them to pick out a few more so that it justifies the cost. :3
I as well have found some real treasures in feeder bins; agouti hooded top ear girl (sweetest thing ever), charcoal bareback headspot dumbo rex female (she has...menal issues, HAHA), black striped wedge blazed odd-eye top ear standard coat male (DAMN SO SWEET), & a blue (can't tell is it's russian or american, it's definitely not powder or sky) lightening blazed COMPLETE odd-eye (one is pitch black, the other is bright ruby) hairless top ear female.
Do you have the little hooded girl in with a nebulizer? Have you exrayed her lungs for any pockets of infection? Myco opens the door to secondary infections & as I'm sure you know, can kill one of our lovebums overnight practically. My base suggestion would be to get her in an oxygen tank, with nebulizer, & see if that works any. If there is a pocket of infection in her lungs, start her one a strict baytil medication, for a week. I suggest doing this orally, as baytril really burns when give via injection, though in some cases I just do the injection anyways. Take .01cc of baytril (if you have any...) mix it in with soy or lactaid milk & some chocolate syrup. She should be more than happy to lap the mixture up out of a syringe held to her. If you don't have baytril, try the same thing with either amoxicillen (I prefer emptying a capsole into their water bottle) tertacycline, or doxycycline. AND! If she is having pains, you know...something is painful for her, then give her a... .02cc of Children's Motrin (flavor mine like is Tropical Punch) & they will enjoy the hell out of taking that orally. :3
BACK TO THE URI (or resp. troubles if there is no infection...) Something else that works is to give them some albuterol. (inhaler for asthma people) Just stick their face into the opening & pump down a real solid puff then remove rat head. Usually one should only do this ONCE, but in extreme cases OR with my big chunky hunks of manrats, I use two puffs.
Sorry, it's late. I've taken my ambien so I'm very wordy. ;x
AND HAY. You send me photos of Spook & I'll dump a massive rattumphotospamDUMPOFDOOOOM on you. Sound like a plan? 8D

Wow, that's one hell of a reply right there
As for my location, I live in Connecticut [and go to college in Vermont].
My hoodie girl has been on 2 different antibiotics, which seemed to help but definitely didn't clear up her wheezing. I'm currently saving up what money I have now so I can bring her to the vet before I go back to VT in the fall [there are no vets in the area that will do rats...It's kind of worrisome], but I'm not sure how much it will end up costing me, especially with x-rays and all. Bah. I only have a part-time job, and I just missed 2 weeks due to an appendectomy :\ Buuut I love my girlies and I'm sure I can borrow some money if it comes down to it <3
My only other worry is her heart murmur. My best buddy Sen, a massive, super-affectionate lump of a boy ended up dying of congestive heart failure.. I've been told a combination of Lasix and Cardoxin can help with this, but my hoodie girl only weighs 8 ounces and I'm not sure if the vet would be willing to just give me something because I asked for it.
As for miss Spooky, I'll go through my folders and see what I've got and try to snap a few new ones tonight
[I actually lost a bunch of her because I was foolish enough to use LiveJournal's scrapbooking section, which was removed when I no longer had a paid account ]

He is such a precious boy... I'm sure you've seen that my darling boy just passed away, too. He was black and fluffy and would've matched so darlingly with your boy. Mine was also a dumbo baby. They're so precious...
Yes, I really could go on & on about rats until my fingers fell off from typing so much. :3
Super Dave passed away a few weeks ago, I think that says that in the description. *shrugs I forget* It was so terribly hard. He had a jaw abcess from a molar cavity. Those are always bad. Each time it drained & we flushed it good, it would just fill right back up, returning with a vengence. It started to push his lower jaw to the side, causing his two top teeth to not connect with his two bottom teeth. So I had to trim his teeth often. And he couldn't eat solids. The night before he passed, he had lost one of his top teeth, root & all, so it would have never grown back. A lifetime of soft foods & teeth trimming, I can't imagine how it would have been for him. But he was still being his usual silly Dave self. Licking me, trying to eat, grooming himself...so I coulnd't put him to sleep, even though the quality of life was so far gone. His mind wasn't. HE was still there, trying, with a complete will to live. So I gave him the usual talk I give my others when this sort of time comes; 'It's okay. You can go, honey. Just, whenever you're too tired to keep going just let go for me.' Etc Etc He died in his sleep that night. I'm glad he heard me, ^^
At least...I have two of his sons, so I am keeping that line going. I refuse to let it fade out of our pedigrees here. That line of rats were THE most loving, soft, & silly rats. And I am going to try as hard as I can to keep it going.
Do you have any more rats? Or are planning on getting any more? (note me, okay? :3) <3 <3
